A Letter of Map Amendment (LOMA) or a Letter of Map Revision (LOMR) is a document that designates the removal of a property from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Special Flood Hazard Area.
A LOMA/LOMR is issued by FEMA on properties that were inaccurately added to a FEMA flood zone. Institutional lenders and insurance companies recognize a LOMA/LOMR document as proof that a property has been removed or rezoned. Properties that have been issued a LOMA/LOMR can obtain flood insurance coverage that is more commensurate with their new risk. In all cases where a LOMA/LOMR is issued, flood insurance costs are dramatically reduced or eliminated entirely.
